Chilblains
January has been an interesting month in our Ripponden Podiatry surgery. The variety in the weather has caused a later than usual surge in chilblains. One day last week I had 6 people come in to the surgery with them, all wondering why this month their feet were more painful than usual.
What are Chilblains?
Chilblains are sore, rather than itchy, areas of skin usually on the toes first, but may be on the feet too. You probably know this is to do with feet getting cold and then warming up too quickly once you are back inside. Basically the mini thermostat in your skin that regulates your blood flow has decided to, go on the blink! Your body then reacts to this and you get sore toes making any corns or callous hurt more too. It doesn’t mean you have a problem with your circulation because the rest of the time it works fine!
How Foot Talk Podiatry can Help
We can help with this by advice on keeping your feet warm, we have cream and insoles which treat chilblains and help you welly wearers keep your feet warm. If they are particularly sore we can pad and dress your toes to make them comfortable again.
